Grammy Award-winning soprano Suzie LeBlanc has been named the artistic and executive director of Early Music Vancouver, becoming the first woman to hold the position in the 50-year history of the organization.
She takes over the role from former director Matthew White, who is now CEO with Victoria Symphony. 鈥淚 first got to know Suzie as a fan of her recordings and then had the honour of working with her on stage many times over the years,鈥 White said in a statement. 鈥淪he is an internationally renowned artist who brings decades of experience working at the very top of [her] field.鈥
LeBlanc will continue to foster Early Music Vancouver鈥檚 ongoing collaboration with Victoria鈥檚 Pacific Baroque Festival. It will be an easy fit for LeBlanc, who has been a fixture on the Victoria scene for several years, both through her involvement with the Victoria Conservatory of Music鈥檚 Summer Academy and performances with the Victoria Symphony and Early Music Society of the Islands.
LeBlanc will take over at Early Music Vancouver on Jan. 4.
