Victoria artists livestreaming after widespread cancellation of live shows can now get funding for their efforts from the provincial government.
The support will be administered through Showcase sa国际传媒, a new partnership and music-funding stream between the government and Creative sa国际传媒
The funding will support musicians affected by the COVID-19 pandemic with one-time micro-grants of $500 to emerging artists and $2,000 to established artists for livestreaming, songwriting and professional development.
鈥淭his program is designed as a quick response by Creative sa国际传媒 to the immediate needs of artists across the province鈥檚 music industry,鈥 Prem Gill, CEO of Creative sa国际传媒, said in a statement.
Grants will be offered to artists previously eligible for funding through another Creative sa国际传媒 endeavour, Amplify sa国际传媒
The program is the latest to fund artists dealing with loss of revenue due to the closure of live-music venues. A joint venture between Ottawa鈥檚 National Arts Centre and Facebook sa国际传媒 is also paying Canadian authors, artists and ensembles for their online performances.
