Small Screen: Christopher Plummer to star in mystery series on Global

TORONTO 鈥 Oscar-winning Canadian actor Christopher Plummer is set to star in a new homegrown drama series for Global TV. The network says he鈥檒l star in Departure alongside Emmy-winning British actress Archie Panjabi of The Good Wife.

TORONTO 鈥 Oscar-winning Canadian actor Christopher Plummer is set to star in a new homegrown drama series for Global TV.

The network says he鈥檒l star in Departure alongside Emmy-winning British actress Archie Panjabi of The Good Wife.

It鈥檚 billed as a 鈥渉igh-octane conspiracy series鈥 about the mysterious disappearance of a passenger plane over the Atlantic Ocean.

Panjabi will play a recently widowed aviation investigator and Plummer will play her former boss.

Vincent Shiao created the six-part 鈥渆vent series,鈥 with T.J. Scott as director and Malcolm MacRury as showrunner.

The producers are sa国际传媒鈥檚 Shaftesbury and the U.K.鈥檚 Greenpoint Productions Ltd., in association with Corus Entertainment.

Principal photography is underway in Toronto and the series is set to air next year as part of Global鈥檚 primetime schedule.

The sa国际传媒/U.K. co-production will also shoot in London, England.

The ensemble cast includes Kris Holden-Ried, Claire Forlani, Rebecca Liddiard, Kristian Bruun, and Allan Hawco.

Games of Thrones back in April 2019

Don鈥檛 even think about packing away your mittens early next spring because winter is scheduled to land in full force come April.

HBO is slowly circling a potential release date for the final season of Game of Thrones, announcing Tuesday that it鈥檒l be in April 2019.

The premium cable provider shared the news with a 30-second video featuring a montage of the show鈥檚 greatest hits 鈥 in some cases literally 鈥 before announcing the release month.

It鈥檚 great news for fans always desperate for the slightest bit of intel about the sprawling fantasy series. Previously, HBO had only let on that the six-episode eighth season would air sometime in 2019.

Netflix plans hip-hop series

NEW YORK 鈥 Cardi B, Chance the Rapper and T.I. will work as judges in a new Netflix competition series looking for the next big hip-hop star.

Netflix announced that Rhythm + Flow will debut next fall. John Legend, who has won Emmy and Tony awards for his producing efforts, is one of the series鈥 executive producers. Cardi B, Chance the Rapper and T.I. will be the show鈥檚 main judges.

The series will include 10 episodes and will hold auditions in the U.S., including the hometowns of the judges: New York, Atlanta and Chicago.
