Q: Is 鈥淕otham鈥 coming back?
A: Yes. Fox has not put it on the network鈥檚 fall schedule but promises the show will return at midseason in 2018-19 for its fifth run. That, though, will be the show鈥檚 last go-round, with the network 鈥渨rapping up this beloved series in a farewell event that will focus on Bruce Wayne鈥檚 (David Mazouz) transformation into the caped crusader.鈥
Q: Any spinoff chatter for the cast of 鈥淭he Americans?鈥 I鈥檓 thinking of Paige (Holly Taylor) in a 鈥淔ugitive鈥 type role roaming the country.
A: As fans like yourself know, 鈥淭he Americans鈥 ended its series run recently, and Paige Jennings, the daughter of Soviet spies Philip (Matthew Rhys) and Elizabeth (Keri Russell), chose not to go to Russia with her parents. (Son Henry, played by Keidrich Sellati, was unaware of everyone else鈥檚 spy games, and was left behind.) This certainly left plenty of unanswered questions. (One bugging me: Is Stan鈥檚 wife a spy or not?) Many viewers have hoped for some kind of continuation. But the series鈥 co-creators think they have said enough. Joe Weisberg and Joel Fields made clear to Variety that any continued narrative was unnecessary. 鈥淚 think the story鈥檚 told,鈥 Fields said. And where the children are concerned, Weisberg told E! News, 鈥淲e鈥檙e going to pretty much leave that up to you.鈥
Q: Is Hetty of 鈥淣CIS: Los Angeles鈥 any relation to Edna Mode in the 鈥淚ncredibles鈥 movies? There looks like a family resemblance, LOL.
A: People have certainly wondered whether the character played by Linda Hunt in the CBS drama is an inspiration for the designer in the animated films. Others have noted that Edna recalls Edith Head, the famous movie-costume designer. 鈥淚ncredibles鈥 writer-director Brad Bird (who is also the voice of Edna) has not, as far as I can find, said who is the inspiration for Edna, but did deny that she is Edith Head in a 2013 tweet. He seemed to enjoy the guessing game, adding, 鈥淧eople from MANY countries (27 & counting) were convinced I based E on a local icon.鈥
Q: When will 鈥淢ountain Men鈥 be back? I love that show.
A: The series is set to begin a run of new episodes on July 19 on History.
Q: On a show like 鈥淛udge Judy,鈥 how does the winner of the case get the money? Does the show pay and then collect from the loser, or does the loser pay the winner directly?
A: According to a letter sent to one potential contestant, the show pays the money in a case, not the people involved. After all, it wants all the people in a case to participate, so the lack of a financial penalty is an incentive. The show also pays an appearance fee as well as travel costs related to going on the show in Los Angeles. If you want to take part in the show, there鈥檚 a 鈥淪ubmit Your Case鈥 form on JudgeJudy.com.
Q: Can you tell me what happened to 鈥淥utlander鈥 that showed on Starz network?
A: The drama based on Diana Gabaldon鈥檚 novels will be back with a new season in November. And two more seasons will be coming after that.
Q: I thoroughly enjoyed the new show 鈥淩ise鈥 and have heard it鈥檚 not coming back. I loved Josh Radnor in his role and found myself completely sucked in to every character鈥檚 story. The show was something new and different as well as heartwarming and completely relevant. Now I feel like the rug鈥檚 been ripped out from under me! Any chance it will still return 鈥 maybe picked up by a different network?
A: At this writing, I do not know of plans for more of the musical drama. There just weren鈥檛 enough people loving the show the way you did. Ratings were reportedly fair when it started but dropped steadily as the show went on. And where strong support from critics might have helped, the reaction to 鈥淩ise鈥 was mixed.
UPDATE: I mentioned some time back that the Harry Potter films are coming to Syfy and USA Network, and the date has been set. A 鈥淲izarding Weekend鈥 on the two channels will have all eight Potter movies showing from July 13 to 16. According to the networks, the telecasts will include 鈥渓imited commercial interruptions and fan testimonials about the series including familiar faces from the SYFY and USA channels.鈥
