You have questions. I have some answers.
Q: My wife and I binge-watched six seasons of 鈥淪uits鈥 on Amazon Prime. We liked it so much that we paid for the seventh season on Amazon. We watched 10 episodes and then they stopped. It did not seem like the finale so what鈥檚 going on? Will there be additional Season 7 episodes?
A: Yes. USA Network, where the new episodes originally air, is one of those networks that split up the seasons of its shows to spread them across more of the year. With 鈥淪uits,鈥 part of the seventh season has been shown and the remaining episodes will begin airing on USA in January. One thing to look for in that batch: the setting up of a possible new series focusing on Jessica Pearson (Gina Torres).
By the way, depending on your program provider, there are other ways to watch Season 7 of 鈥淪uits鈥 besides on Amazon, such as On Demand or via USA Network鈥檚 website.
Q: Do you know when 鈥淭aboo鈥 will be back on TV? It was a series with Tom Hardy and I think it was on Fox. It takes place in late 1700s or early 1800s in London.
A: A second season of the series, which airs on FX, has been ordered, but reports indicate production will not begin until sometime in 2018. The show鈥檚 creator, Steven Knight, has said, 鈥淚鈥檓 trying to write it as quickly as I can.鈥
Q: I am curious as to why Lou Holtz and Mark May are no longer on ESPN鈥檚 college football shows.
A: Holtz left the network in 2015; he told Twincities.com that 鈥渢here comes a time when you have to step aside and let the young people do it.鈥 May was among the many ESPN staffers who were laid off earlier this year.
Q: I watched the first episode of 鈥淢ASH鈥 and noticed a different actor playing Father Mulcahy. I would like to know why this change occurred.
A: A series pilot helps convince a network to buy a show. After the deal is made, the network or studio may decide on changes such as eliminating characters, adding new ones, modifying the show鈥檚 concept and, yes, replacing actors. Sometimes those pilots never air. Other times, since the pilot cost money to make, it may yet air with all concerned trusting that the audience will keep up with the changes. On 鈥淢ASH,鈥 George Morgan was the original Father Mulcahy, but was replaced by William Christopher in the part. In an online discussion, 鈥淢ASH鈥 series creator Larry Gelbart said that there was nothing wrong with Morgan鈥檚 acting; it was just that the show wanted Mulcahy to have a 鈥渜uirkier personality,鈥 and Christopher ? who had also auditioned for the role ? provided that.
Q: I have the first season of 鈥淭he Drew Carey Show鈥 on DVD but have not seen the other seasons yet. Will they come out?
A: The Cleveland-set series has had two DVD releases, a small sampler of episodes and a box set of the first season. Since then, nothing else has appeared. Several years ago, in an online chat, Carey said there were problems with the music rights, and that still appears to be the hang-up. If you have access to the Laff network, it is rerunning Carey鈥檚 show.
Q: Several months ago I began watching 鈥淗ome Fires鈥 on PBS. After several episodes it disappeared and I was not able to find how it concluded. Why was it taken off the air?
A: The World War II drama, consisting of a total of 12 episodes spread across two seasons, was canceled by its British broadcaster after the second season even though that season ended with what one publication called a 鈥渕assive cliffhanger.鈥 (The official explanation was that the network, ITV, wanted 鈥渢o refresh the channel鈥檚 drama portfolio.鈥) If you want to see if you have missed any episodes, you can find them online at www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/shows/home-fires.
