The Victoria Film Festival's annual FilmCAN competition is back, giving local high school students an opportunity to create short videos that could potentially be screened during the 2013 edition of the festival.
Students in two categories - Grade 8 and younger, and Grades 9 to 12 - are guided by professionals during the process. This year's competition will have unprecedented reach now that it is open to students on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.
The objective is to educate students on filmmaking in a supportive environment, with prizes and exposure as incentives.
Helpful hints include eHow tutorials and tips on how to make your own version of a Steadicam for just $14.
This year's prizes include an iMac computer loaded with Adobe Premiere.
For entry details and to register, visit vimeo.com/groups/film-can. The deadline to upload videos is Dec. 15.
The Victoria Film Festival takes place Feb. 1-10, 2013.
