A prize that Toronto film critics give to their favourite Canadian movie of the year has been increased to a whopping $100,000.
The Rogers Best Canadian Film Award was previously worth $15,000.
The winner will be announced at a gala dinner held by the Toronto Film Critics Association on Jan. 8, 2013.
The director of the winning film, voted by members of the TFCA, will receive $100,000 from Rogers Communications. The two runners-up will each receive $5,000.
Other prizes will include the $5,000 Manulife Financial student film award and the Jay Scott prize for an emerging artist, which comes with a cheque for $5,000 plus an equivalent value in post-production services.
The Toronto Film Critics Association is composed of Toronto-based journalists and broadcasters who specialize in film criticism and commentary.
"Canadian film is competing on the world stage and with this extraordinary prize we hope to inspire this community to reach even higher," Phil Lind, vice-chairman, Rogers Communications, said Tuesday in a statement.
