University of Victoria history professor Wendy Wickwire has won a pair of book prizes for At the Bridge, her sa国际传媒 bestseller about ethnographer James Teit.
Wickwire鈥檚 400-page book about Teit, who helped sa国际传媒 Indigenous peoples exercise their rights in the early 20th century, took home the annual sa国际传媒 Prize as the best scholarly book in the humanities and social sciences in sa国际传媒. The prize earned Wickwire the $10,000 top prize by the Ottawa-based Federation for Humanities and Social Sciences for making an exceptional contribution to the social, cultural and intellectual life of sa国际传媒.
She was also named the sa国际传媒 winner of The Clio book prize, one of seven awards presented annually by the Canadian Historical Association to publications that make an exceptional contribution to regional history. At the Bridge has been named to six other short lists since its publication in June 2019 on the UBC Press imprint.
