Amazon sa国际传媒 and The Walrus have named Nanaimo鈥檚 Rama Altaleb and Victoria鈥檚 Stella Braun as finalists for the fourth annual Youth Short Story prize, which will be presented May 27.
The two 17-year-olds are among five writers between the ages of 13 and 17 who will compete for the award, which comes with a $5,000 prize and a mentorship lunch with editors of The Walrus. The winner will be named during a virtual event that is part of the ceremony for the 45th annual Amazon sa国际传媒 First Novel Award, whose nominees were also announced Monday.
Altaleb, a Syrian immigrant who arrived in sa国际传媒 in 2018 from a Zaatari refugee camp in Jordan, drew her nomination for Lost Childhood.
Braun, who is in her final year of high school and plans to study writing at university, earned a nod for The Sound of Light.
