Three poets from Victoria have been shortlisted for the 2018 Annual Poetry Awards, a national honour sponsored by the League of Canadian Poets that gives $2,000 to winners in four categories.
Wendy Donawa and Julie Paul were among the six poets named to the shortlist for the Gerald Lampert Memorial Award, which honours the first book of poetry published by a Canadian writer in the preceding year. Donawa is nominated for Thin Air of the Knowable (Brick Books), while Paul is in competition for The Rules of the Kingdom (McGill-Queen’s University Press). Karen Enns’ third book of poetry, Cloud Physics (University of Regina Press), drew a nomination for the Raymond Souster Award, which celebrates a book of poetry published in the preceding year by a league member.
Winners will be announced during an awards ceremony at the Canadian Writers’ Summit, held June 16 in Toronto.
The League of Canadian Poets is a national non-profit organization that stages the annual competition.
