This is a special year for the gallery’s house tour — as the event is 65 years old.

The Gallery Associates group began in 1952 with 16 members and the following year it inaugurated the first house tour.

Since then, the enthusiastic group has raised half a million dollars for the gallery and by doing so has given tremendous knowledge and inspiration to the public, showcasing many architecturally fascinating homes, extensive private art collections and unique interior décor details.

The homes this year range from urban to rural, and include three in Oak Bay and Uplands and three in north and west Saanich. They include historic houses, complete renovations and new builds — and each will also feature beautiful floral arrangements and a local artist at work.

The artists include Andy Wooldridge, Ken Faulks, Monica Reekie, Katherine Farris, Irene Khurana and Sherry Tompalski.

Not only is there a broad diversity in architecture and age this year, but event chair Bill Huzar said the artists also bring a range of unique styles, and an opportunity for visitors to meet and chat with them about their work.
