As we move into the heart of the summer, it’s time to start thinking about outdoor parties. Here are some ideas to make your outdoor event a success.

Outdoor dining

Outdoor entertaining can present challenges, but they don’t have to be a deterrent.

Here are some basic elements to consider when it comes to outdoor entertaining.

• Have both an outdoor and indoor plan. Some of your guests might not want to spend the whole time outdoors, so you want to have a plan that allows for seamless entertaining both indoors and out.

• Create zones. Larger outdoor spaces can have a dining zone as well as a lounging zone.

• Be sure to have ample seating. While some of your guests may choose to stand, have a mix of sofas, chairs, tables or even benches and ottomans for additional seating.

Colours

Consider using bright and bold as well as warm and cosy colours. Red and yellow are great choices. The pair provides a touch of radiance. Additionally, they can be repurposed in the fall.

Beyond red and yellow, green is also a solid choice. Green decorative items blend well and highlight the natural environment, as the landscape is still lush and full.

Decorative elements

Parties are always a wonderful time to showcase your creative skills as well as some of the decorative party items you’ve kept in the cupboards.

From plates and napkins to a decorative tray, candle or condiment holder, consider elements that can help add a decorative element to your table.

The 3 Fs

The 3 Fs help to make your party come to life: food, fun, and family and friends.

Don’t ignore your food. Food and beverages are the cornerstone of any great party. The next F, fun, is your opportunity to entertain your guests, either with backyard games or poolside activities. Lastly, family and friends may be the most important of all — enjoy your guests!
