ARTS & CRAFTS

Some of North America's finest chalk artists are in Victoria this week for the inaugural International Chalk Art Festival. The five-day free festival opened Wednesday at the Bay Centre. On Saturday and Sunday, international and local chalk artists will begin chalk art drawings on two blocks of Government Street, which will be closed to vehicle traffic for the weekend. Tracy Lee Stum, ranked No. 1 in the world for her interactive 3-D chalk art, will work on a six-metre square chalk art drawing at the Bay Centre's centre court. When finished, her drawing will appear in 3D when viewed from a specific vantage point. The festival runs until Sunday. On Saturday and Sunday, the professional artists will occupy the block of Government Street between Fort and Yates, while the block between Yates and View will be dedicated to child chalkers, with free chalk.
