Greater Victoria places where, in recent weeks, we've seen lineups out the door. Asterisk: lines can look especially impressive at places where there's barely any room to wait inside. Another asterisk: completely unscientific listing – only includes parts of town where we stroll, usually before midnight.

Out-of-town relatives ate here and hated it. But, obviously, many, many other people disagree.

Pagliacci's

There is almost always a lineup here at lunch and supper time, going down the block.

John's Place

Eating Companion No. 2 really likes John's, but Eating Companion No. 1 had one meal here and declared it a place that he didn't ever want to return to, in large measure because the tables are so close together. And he didn't like the taste of the hash. He's picky.

Thought of joining the line once, but the folks inside and out looked way too beautiful. My presence would have really dragged down the hip, with-it, etc. quotient, and I didn't want to do that to the place. Triathlon star eats here.

Especially around noon on a Saturday or Sunday when they're serving dim sum. The line doesn't technically go out the door onto the street, but out the door of the restaurant into the elevator area. We waited for a table once for 30 minutes on a line with about 40 people. Didn't have other pressing engagements that day and the conversation was good.
