What: Ai WeiWei: Never Sorry

Why: There's more to the charismatic Chinese artist and outspoken dissident of this revealing documentary's title than meets the eye. Journalist-turned-filmmaker Alison Klayman's intimate, inspirational portrait of the internationally acclaimed artistic provocateur and social critic best known as the artistic consultant on the Beijing Olympics' Bird Nest stadium makes this abundantly clear. If the fact Klayman's film is already generating Oscar buzz wasn't enough to tempt you, it also provides an ideal early opportunity to experience Cinecenta's new digital projection system.

What: Nigel Mack and the Blues Attack (with Summer and the Sinners)

Why: The Vancouver Island Blues Bash on Labour Day weekend is the big shout for blues in the summertime. Yet for those who need it now, we recommend Nigel Mack and the Blues Attack, performing Saturday. Mack is a Canadian singer, guitarist and harmonica player who relocated to Chicago a decade ago to pursue his blues dream. This seasoned road veteran knows how to deliver. Opening is the popular Victoria blues-rock act Summer and the Sinners.

Why: If you're expecting to watch flicks of dancers on stage, you're going to have a hard time. Dance for the Camera, directed by local contemporary mavens Constance Cooke and Grace Salez, is an intensive twoweek program all about marrying the disciplines of dance and film to create something new. Here's a chance to catch the premi猫res of eight films created by program participants from across sa国际传媒 and the United States, before they're submitted to festivals.
