Festival celebrates wild edibles

Two wild edibles - salmon and mushrooms - are the stars of a festival this Saturday and Sunday in Lake Cowichan. The annual Salmon and Mushroom Festival features mushroom identification, cooking demonstrations, a salmon barbecue lunch and slide shows. Guided field trips in the forest are on offer Sunday afternoon. There is also a market with vendors selling local arts and crafts, baked goods and a variety of local mushrooms.

Admission is $2 for adults, free for children. The event runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at the Lake Cowichan Centennial Hall. Call 1-250-749-6291 or go to mayocreekgardens.ca.
