Film fans invited to pick short docs for festival

Movie buffs have a chance to help pick the lineup of short documentaries for the 19th annual Victoria Film Festival in February at a special View and Vote event that's running for the next few weeks.

Movie buffs have a chance to help pick the lineup of short documentaries for the 19th annual Victoria Film Festival in February at a special View and Vote event that's running for the next few weeks.

You can watch short film entries over the lunch hour and, based on the festival selection criteria, pick the ones you think should appear at the festival.

View and Vote screenings take place every Monday from noon until 1 p.m. until Nov. 26 at the Greater Victoria Public Library, 735 Broughton St.

"This is a wonderful partnership between the Greater Victoria Public Library and the Victoria Film Festival to engage the community at large and provide a tangible connection to what is programmed at the festival," said festival director Kathy Kay.

"I think this will create a better understanding of the process that goes into selecting films and give participants the tools for good critical awareness."

There is no cost to participate and there is no limit to the number of screenings someone can attend. For more information, call 250-389-0444 or go to victoriafilmfestival.com.
