Dear Dr. Roach: I was diagnosed with a Bochdalek hernia following a lung CT scan I had for a separate problem. I had had some pretty serious pain a few months earlier, and went to the doctor, but nothing was found at that time.

Dear Dr. Roach: My 72-year-old husband was diagnosed with multiple myeloma recently, and we have been told that he will need chemo treatments. He also has anemia, which I think is probably normal.

Dear Dr. Roach: In February, my doctor had me get a neck ultrasound because she said one side of my neck felt larger. The results came back that the right lobe of my thyroid gland did measure larger. I had a blood test, which was OK.

Dear Dr. Roach: At 69, I still 鈥渮one out鈥� briefly, losing time and location. In grade school, I was told that I daydreamed too much, and at one point was deemed 鈥渞ather slow鈥� on my report card. I repeated sixth grade.

Years ago in my medical office, I was convinced that tight jeans and panties were causing repeated pelvic infections in women. So, in jest, I wrote a column about it suggesting that Yves St. Laurent should design better jeans and panties.

Dear Dr. Roach: I am 61, and I ride a bike and paddle a kayak, although not as often as I should. I also weigh more than I should. I聽come from a family with a long history of heart problems, and recently was diagnosed with mild diastolic dysfunction.

Dear Dr. Roach: I am a 75-year-old female in fairly good health. I take statins to keep my cholesterol under control, and am being followed by an endocrinologist for a parathyroid problem, which also is under control.

How hard would be the disappointment? You鈥檝e trained for years to acquire a medal at the Rio Olympics. And then the unthinkable happens. You develop a respiratory or intestinal infection just before the event.

Dear Dr. Roach: I read your recent column on calcium. I was recently informed by my physician that there is a link between excess calcium and heart disease. She recommended that I stop taking calcium supplements.

Dear Dr. Roach: For the past seven years, I have had an itch under my shoulder blade on my back. It stretches from the left side to the centre. There is no rash or anything visible on the skin; it just itches all the time.
