James Bay celebrates Victoria's 150th anniversary Saturday with day-long events for the whole family. - The party starts with a pancake breakfast at 9 a.m. at the James Bay Community School Centre.

James Bay celebrates Victoria's 150th anniversary Saturday with day-long events for the whole family.

- The party starts with a pancake breakfast at 9 a.m. at the James Bay Community School Centre.

- Learn about what lives underwater at Ogden Point with Backyard Oceans (9: 30 a.m. to noon - look for signs).

- Danda Humphries and Chris Adams will give historical tours from 11 a.m. to noon and 2 to 4 p.m. from the New Horizons Activity Centre.

- A Victorian Tea will be served between noon and 2 p.m. at the New Horizons Activity Centre.

- People can play old-fashioned games, listen to music or eat hot dogs and popcorn (2 to 4 p.m.) at Irving Park.

Participants are encouraged to dress in period costumes. The celebration is a joint effort of the James Bay Community Project, James Bay New Horizons and the James Bay Community School Centre. For more information, call 250-389-1470 or go to jamesbaycentre.ca.

Saturday is Tomato Day at the James Bay Market. Heirloom varieties will be on display and vendors will be selling the succulent fruit. Learn how to care for plants and how to save seeds to start your own plants next year.
