CHECK IT OUT

Quilters and medieval reenactors will take over Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard Lighthouse National Historic Site this weekend.

The site will feature demonstrations by members of the Quilts of Valour and the Pacific Association for Re-creating the Middle Ages.

Throughout the summer, members of the Coast Collective have been taking turns displaying their art at the national historic site, from painting to beach art, sketches and pottery.

From today until Sunday, master quilters, members of the Quilts of Valour, will be on site, selecting patterns and colours to cut, stitch and assemble fabric to create quilts to be donated to injured soldiers.

Visitors will have a chance to create their own squares to add to the blankets.

They can also step back in time to the Middle Ages, by visiting the Medieval Village, a 14th-century recreation.

Stroll among tents where armourers, weavers, carpenters, pewterers and calligraphers work with the tools and techniques of the era.

For one week, actors and association members will be on hand to display their tools, wear their medieval attire and entertain with stories of the era.

Regular admission to Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard Lighthouse National Historic Site, 603 Fort Rodd Hill, applies.

The master quilters of the Quilts of Valour will be on hand from today to Sunday. The Medieval Village is open for viewing from Friday until Aug. 23.
