11 more COVID deaths recorded in sa国际传媒, including one in Island Health

British Columbia has recorded 11 new deaths related to COVID-19 over a three-day period, including one in the Island Health region.

There have been 2,914 fatalities associated with COVID infections since the pandemic began.

The Health Ministry said in a news release that six of the deaths were in the Fraser area, three in the Interior region and one each in Northern and Island health authorities.

It said there were 449 people in hospital and 63 of those are in intensive care. The figure is a slight decrease from Friday, when 484 people were in hospital with COVID-19 while 69 were in intensive care.

The ministry said people who are not fully vaccinated accounted for 31.9 per cent of hospitalizations between Feb. 18 and March 3, despite making up less than 10 per cent of the population 12 and older.

Almost 90.8 per cent of those eligible 12 and older have received their second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 56.2 per cent have had their third dose, officials said.

The region has COVID outbreaks at eight health-care facilities: Sidney Care Home, Amica on the Gorge, Selkirk Seniors Village, Nanaimo Seniors Village, Berwick House Gordon Head, The Heights at Mt. View, Greenwoods and Parkwood Court.
