44 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in sa国际传媒, first death reported in Interior Health

Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced 44 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and three additional deaths on Wednesday.

A total of 1,561 people have tested positive for COVID-19, Henry said, and 75 people have died.聽

The first death in the Interior Health region was reported today, a man in his 60s. "He was mostly at home, but had gone into the hospital with an acute condition just prior to his death," Henry said.聽

There are 131 people in hospital, she said, including 59 in intensive care or critical care units. Of those who have tested positive, 955 are considered to be fully recovered.

There have been 92 confirmed cases on Vancouver Island, up three from Tuesday. There are 670 cases in Vancouver Coastal Health, 623 in Fraser Health, 146 in Interior Health and 30 in Northern Health.

Not everyone who might have COVID-19 is tested, and actual cases are likely higher than the confirmed cases.

Guidelines from the sa国际传媒 Centre for Disease Control limit testing to people who are hospitalized or likely to be hospitalized, health-care workers, residents in long-term care and people who are part of an investigation for a cluster outbreak.
