Applications for sa国际传媒鈥檚 $1,000 pandemic benefit open May 1

If you鈥檙e one of the many whose employment has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, you can file an application for the $1,000 sa国际传媒 Emergency Benefit for Workers starting May 1.

The benefit is a one-time, tax-free payment for residents of the province who have been affected. Most people who qualify for the sa国际传媒 Emergency Response Benefit, also known as CERB, are also eligible for the sa国际传媒 benefit, including those who have run out of employment insurance benefits.

鈥淭his benefit is further help for British Columbians who are worried about paying their bills and making ends meet during the COVID-19 pandemic,鈥 Finance Minister Carole James said in a statement.

鈥淒uring these uncertain times, we want to get through this together by helping displaced workers support themselves and their families.鈥

To qualify for the sa国际传媒 benefit, you must:

鈥 Have been a resident of sa国际传媒 on March 15, 2020

鈥 Meet the eligibility requirements of the CERB

鈥 Have been approved for the CERB, even if you haven鈥檛 received payment yet

鈥 Be at least 15 years old on the date of application

鈥 Have filed, or agree to file, a 2019 sa国际传媒 income tax return

鈥 Not be receiving provincial income assistance or disability assistance

Payments are expected to start to go out within days of application, but the province said there may be minor delays during the initial surge.

Applications can be made at the government of sa国际传媒鈥檚 starting on May 1.

Applications over the phone will begin on May 4.
