The Town of Ladysmith is holding a byelection on March 1 to fill the mayor’s seat left vacant after Aaron Stone stepped down in September.
Stone, who had been mayor since 2014, also left his position as chair of the Cowichan Valley Regional District when he departed to become chief executive of the South Island Prosperity Partnership.
Anyone interested in the job can obtain nomination packages as of Dec. 16 at the town hall, 410 Esplanade.
Completed packages must be returned to the town hall between Jan. 14 and Jan. 24.
Voting will take place between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. at the Frank Jameson Community Centre on March 1. Advance voting will take place Feb. 19 and Feb. 26 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the town hall.
Council appointed Donna Smith as Chief Election Officer to oversee the byelection during a special meeting of council this week.
