A man has been arrested and charged in connection with a New Year’s Day shooting in Nanaimo.
The shooting occurred at at DBL Disposal Services, where a 43-year-old man sustained life-threatening injuries after being assaulted and shot.
He was treated at the scene by paramedics and then airlifted to hospital in Victoria.
The man has since been released from hospital and continues to recover.
An arrest was made soon after the shooting but it did not result in charges.
Jeffery Benvin, 47, was recently arrested without incident by the Serious Crime Unit and has been charged with discharging a firearm with intent to disfigure, aggravated assault and use of a firearm while committing an indictable offence.
He was scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 15
