The Comox Valley Airport says it had a banner year for passengers in 2024 — the third-busiest year in the airport’s history.
More than 400,000 passengers travelled through the airport last year, making it the busiest year since the pandemic.
That was up more than eight per cent from 2023, or 30,768 additional travellers.
From Comox, travellers can fly direct to Vancouver, Kelowna, Calgary and Edmonton.
The airport also hosts twice-weekly non-stop service on weekends to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, between December and April 20, and weekly service in November and April.
The airport’s website says it hopes to host flights to and from Toronto again this summer.
The fourth quarter of 2024 was the airport’s busiest on record, achieving new monthly heights for both October and November.
In December, a total of 36,014 passengers transited the airport, a 17% increase from December 2023.
Comox Valley Airport Commission CEO Mike Atkins said the robust year-end figures underscore the continued recovery and growth in demand for air travel.
Atkins said the airport is now at 98% of 2019 passenger levels, adding “it’s a testament to the vital link our airport represents for Vancouver Island.”
YQQ is due to welcome its seven-millionth passenger this spring.
