The University of Victoria’s Cornett Building has reopened after being evacuated Friday afternoon due to a report of a suspicious item, Saanich police say.

The building was shut down at 1:20 p.m. and was back in service by 2:15 p.m., UVic said in a notice on its website.

Saanich police Insp. Damian Kowalewich said officers assisted by the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team and Integrated Canine Service investigated, and it was later determined that the “item was not a danger to campus students or staff.”

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances, Kowalewich said.
