Victoria sculptor Fredwin Perry and Babak's Oriental Carpets join forces in aid of the sa国际传媒 Christmas Fund at an East Meets West event Dec. 5 and 6.
Donations from people who attend the event and 10 per cent of the proceeds of sales of sculpture and carpets will go to the sa国际传媒 Christmas Fund, which is aiming to equal last year's total of more than $250,000.
Perry feels strongly about the marginalization of people with limited resources and major challenges -- from the illiterate man living on the streets to the single mother who needs medicine for her child.
"It's our personal responsibility to get together regardless of what faith we are, and look at transformation," he says. "The light is at the lowest ebb of the year and it means we have to look at the light from within . . . Then carry on that light, not just for Christmas, but on a monthly level," said Perry.
There will be a "solution book" at the fusion event. On Dec. 23, another get-together is scheduled to discuss how to take some of the suggestions and put them into practice.
Perry notes that Jesus Christ taught "do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
"It's not a religious thing that I'm looking at here [but] people of all ethnic groups and all faiths, putting down their differences and saying, let's all get together and help out the community, regardless of who it is."
The event, with catering by Blair Mart, will be held at 919 Fort St. on Dec. 5 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. and on Dec. 6 from noon to 4 p.m.
