Driver faces charges after man pinned against tree with vehicle

The vehicle was found resting against a tree in the Rock Bay area after the driver fled, but he later turned himself in, Victoria police say

Victoria police were called about 2 a.m. Dec. 1 with a report about a man screaming for help in the 600-block of Hillside Avenue, in the Rock Bay area.

A 34-year-old man is facing charges of aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle after he allegedly used his vehicle to intentionally strike a man and pin him against a tree.

Victoria police were called about 2 a.m. Dec. 1 with a report about a man screaming for help in the 600-block of Hillside Avenue, in the Rock Bay area.

The victim had suffered life-altering injuries to his leg, police said.

Officers administered emergency first-aid until paramedics arrived a short time later and transported the victim to hospital.

The driver’s vehicle was found abandoned and resting against a tree after he fled the area, but he later called police to turn himself in and was located and arrested.

Cristian Ganzo-Murpy remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
