Drivers face crackdown

Police across the Island will be cracking down on impaired and aggressive drivers and those driving without seatbelts during the Thanksgiving long weekend.

Police across the Island will be cracking down on impaired and aggressive drivers and those driving without seatbelts during the Thanksgiving long weekend.

Dubbed Operation Impact, the blitz, which runs from today until Monday, is on a weekend where traffic will be heavy as families flock out of town and off the Island, said Const. Mike Halskov of the South Island Traffic Services unit. It's also a reminder to motorists to drive more cautiously as the winter months approach, he said.

Data collected by traffic officers on numbers of speeders, drunk drivers and crashes will be sent to Transport sa国际传媒.

To avoid getting pinched during the crackdown, drivers should be patient and allow a little more time to get to their destinations, Halskov said.

Operation Impact is part of Road Safety Vision 2010, which has a goal of making sa国际传媒's roads the safest in the world by 2010.
