The province is lifting the campfire ban for Vancouver Island starting Tuesday.
sa国际传媒 Wildfire Service announced that Sept. 20 at noon the campfire prohibition would be lifted for for the Coastal Fire Centre area, which spans south coastal sa国际传媒 including the Lower Mainland, the Sunshine Coast, the Gulf Islands, Haida Gwaii and Vancouver Island.
The lift means campfires, tikis, outdoor stoves and portable campfire apparatuses will be permitted in the region.
In an announcement, sa国际传媒 Wildfire Service said fire danger has declined due to recent rainfall and cooler, more seasonal temperatures, but the public is encouraged to stay cautious with campfires.
More than 40 wildfires continue to burn in the Coastal Fire Centre, including two lightning-caused wildfires mid-Island near Golden Hinde mountain and Wolf River. sa国际传媒 Wildfire is also managing eight smaller wildfires across Vancouver Island.
“It is the responsibility of the individual to ensure that burning is done in a safe and responsible manner and in accordance with regulations. Before lighting any fire, check with local government authorities to see if any local burning restrictions are in place.”
