Saanich police say they stopped 25 impaired drivers in just the first 15 days of December.
Of those, 14 received 90-day licence suspensions and had their vehicles impounded.
By early September of this year, the department had already exceeded the total number of impaired drivers it had dealt with in all of 2023 — 468.
That number had jumped to 580 by Nov. 30.
Police said in a statement that stepped-up enforcement will continue throughout December, which includes weekly Counterattack roadblocks.
It suggested taking taxis or transit or using a designated driver as an alternative to driving while impaired by drugs or alcohol.
