A fundraising page has been set up to help Anne Tolmie, whose Blenkinsop Road home was broken into several times and ransacked while she was in hospital with pneumonia.
Saanich Coun. Natalie Chambers, from neighbouring Madrona Farm, created a GoFundMe page for 78-year-old Tolmie, who can’t live in the home in its current condition.
Valuable antiques, family keepsakes and furniture were stolen and the copper pipes in the basement were taken away in what Tolmie believes were six break-and-enters.
Saanich police are investigating.
“Since the news broke a few days ago, an overwhelming amount of people in the community have come forward and asked how they can help Anne,” Chambers said on the page.
Donations are being collected to provide Tolmie with a mobile home or trailer that will allow her to live on her property while her house is repaired.
“It is in times like these that we need to band together and care for the elderly in our community,” Chambers said.
Tolmie’s situation inspired a series of offers of furniture donations through the sa国际传媒.
The fundraising goal is $10,000 and donations were approaching that amount on Saturday.
