Graduating Grade 12 students will get two free bus rides during the month of June, thanks to the GradPASS program, offered by sa国际传媒 Transit and its partner communities across the province.
The program was introduced in Vancouver in 1988 and adopted by the Victoria Regional Transit System in 1990.
This year, 170 schools in 69 communities — 64 on Vancouver Island, including 21 in Greater Victoria — have signed up for the program, with more than 21,000 passes issued.
The paper cards were distributed to students by participating schools in late May. To use the pass, students scratch off their two chosen travel days and show it to the bus driver at the time of boarding, along with a valid student ID.
The cost of the program is shared between local governments — in Victoria, it’s the Victoria Regional Transit Commission — and sa国际传媒 Transit, with no cost to the individual schools or school districts.
