Island Health sees highest number of postponed surgeries; receives most ICU transfers

Island Health has received the ­greatest number of ICU patient transfers from high COVID outbreak areas in the province and over the last two weeks has had the highest numbers of postponed scheduled surgeries.

sa国际传媒 Health Minister Adrian Dix reported that from Oct. 3 to Oct. 16, of the 556 non-urgent surgeries postponed throughout the province, 307 were in Island Health.

On Tuesday, the province reported 560 new cases of COVID-19, bringing active cases to 4,913, including 382 individuals in hospital of whom 146 are in intensive care.

Island Health reported the fewest new COVID cases at 61 for a total active case count of 516. Island Health now has 47 COVID patients in hospital of whom 29 are in intensive care.

The highest daily case count Tuesday was reported by Fraser Health at 208 new cases for a total of 2,052.

The province reported five new deaths for an overall total of 2,086. One of those deaths was in Island Health.

There are 23 health-care facility outbreaks including one at Tofino General Hospital.

From Oct. 4 to 17, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 75 per cent of hospitalizations.
