There has been another death from COVID-19 on Vancouver Island, for a total of three deaths on the Island, according to the sa国际传媒 Centre of Disease Control鈥檚 website.
Island Health confirmed the death in hospital of a patient in their 80s. 鈥淲e want to share our condolences with family and friends of this individual,鈥 said Island Health CEO Kathy MacNeil.
The province announced 14 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, for a total of 1,575 people province-wide who have tested positive for the disease. Seventy-eight people have now died.
鈥淲e are saddened to report three new COVID-19 related deaths, for a total of 78 deaths in British Columbia,鈥 said sa国际传媒 Health Minister Adrian Dix. 鈥淲e offer our condolences to everyone who has lost their loved ones.鈥
There are 120 people in hospital in sa国际传媒 with COVID-19, including 56 in intensive care or critical-care units. On the Island, seven are in hospital, including two in intensive care.
Of those who have tested positive in sa国际传媒, 983 are considered to be fully recovered.
There have been 94 confirmed cases on Vancouver Island, with two new cases since Wednesday. Of those 94 cases, 22 have been hospitalized to date, two are currently in ICU and 53 have recovered.
There are 670 cases in Vancouver Coastal Health, 630 in Fraser Health, 149 in Interior Health and 32 in Northern Health.
Not everyone who might have COVID-19 is tested, and actual cases are likely higher than the confirmed cases.
Guidelines from the sa国际传媒 Centre for Disease Control limit testing to people who are hospitalized or likely to be hospitalized, health-care workers, residents in long-term care and people who are part of an investigation for a cluster outbreak.
