Man arrested 11 minutes after release

Prolific Victoria criminal has more than 60 convictions

Victoria police arrested a man with more than 60 criminal convictions earlier this week, just 11 minutes after he was released for an earlier offence.

Aaron March, 43, was arrested on Wednesday after Victoria police observed him breaking into two cars, and then stealing from a nearby convenience store. This happened just 11 minutes after he was released from court for breaking into a vehicle the day before.

Grant Hamilton of the Victoria police called March "one of the most active, prolific criminals in the region." March has criminal convictions dating back to 1983, with a range of offences including theft, drugs and violence.

March was first arrested on Tuesday afternoon, when police were called after March and another man were found wrestling after the man had caught March breaking into his car. March was arrested, and at that time, police found he had an outstanding warrant for breaking into a vehicle earlier this year.

March appeared in court the next day and was released. According to Hamilton, March was identified by Victoria police as "very likely to reoffend," which provoked police to continue surveillance on him.

Just 11 minutes after March was released on Wednesday, police watched as he broke into two more parked vehicles on Fort Street, stealing a cell phone from one of them, and then stealing chocolate bars from a nearby convenience store.

He was immediately arrested and remains in custody.

March now faces a number of charges including theft and possession of stolen property. His next scheduled court appearance is June 24.
