The coroners service is investigating the death of a 58-year-old man who was found dead in a house that the province is trying to seize through the Civil Forfeiture Act.
Victoria police spokesman Sgt. Grant Hamilton said there are no indications that the death is suspicious and the Victoria man, who they do not believe resided in the house, may have died of a drug overdose.
Police are not releasing the name of the dead man, who Hamilton said had recently been released from jail.
He was discovered Saturday morning by other occupants in the house at 2547 Prior St., a location that police have visited 180 times since 2003. Police allege the house is used as a staging platform for drug sales and prostitution.
It is the first time the province has tried to use civil forfeiture to seize a house in Victoria.
