Missing Comox Valley senior found dead near vehicle

A missing Comox Valley senior was found dead Tuesday afternoon near where his car had been located earlier in the day.

The body of Wayne Jardine, 76, who was last heard from Monday evening, was found near Cook Creek and Highway 19.

His death was confirmed by his daughter in a Facebook post.

“My heart hurts so much it’s hard to breathe,” Jacqui Marlow’s post said.

She thanked everyone one involved in the search.

RCMP and a team from Comox Valley Ground Search and Rescue had been looking for Jardine, and it was thought he might be in need of medical attention.

He had contacted a family member at at 5:45 p.m., saying his vehicle had broken down and he was walking in the area of Cumberland Road and Royston Road in Courtenay.

RCMP were told Jardine sounded disoriented.

Further investigation found that Jardine had likely been missing since Sunday evening and his cellphone battery was believed to be dead.
