A man found hiding under suitcases and bags in the back seat of a car in Nanaimo has now been charged with drug trafficking.
In April, Nanaimo RCMP conducting patrols in the downtown area saw a “hand-to-hand” exchange of drugs for money in the front seats of a parked Mitsubishi at Victoria Road and Selby Street.
Police pulled in behind the car and arrested the man and woman involved in the transaction.
Officers then conducted a search inside the car and discovered the man hiding.
Also found were several swords, large knives, drug-packaging items and a drug suspected to be fentanyl.
Raymond Gilliland, 51, was arrested April 26 and remains in custody, police said.
