RCMP are asking for the public’s assistance as they continue to investigate a crash that killed a 24-year-old member of the Nanaimo United soccer club.
Reid Davidson was driving a Toyota Yaris about 10 p.m. July 19 near the Cedar overpass when his vehicle was struck by a Dodge Caravan heading south in the northbound lanes.
The 59-year-old driver of the Caravan was seriously injured but has since been released from hospital. Officers found him a short distance from the crash with the help of a police dog.
Nanaimo RCMP Const. Gary O’Brien said investigators have established a timeline for the route taken by the driver before the fatal crash.
Police have determined that the green van was travelling south on the Nanaimo Parkway at Superior Road at 9:30 p.m.
At 9:42 p.m., the driver “for unknown reasons” turned into the northbound lanes at the Fifth Street intersection and drove south. Minutes later, the van struck Davidson’s car.
Police ask anyone with dash-cam video from the area or information on the incident to call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
