A black bear in a tree and a swarm of bees made for a busy day Wednesday for Victoria Police Department.
In a post on X, Chief Del Manak said officers’ first nature-related call came about 7:30 a.m. with neighbours reporting that a black bear was in a tree on Washington Avenue, in the Burnside Gorge area.
The sa国际传媒 Conservation Officer Service was called in, and the bear was tranquilized and taken away, Manak said.
Then about 3 p.m., officers responded to multiple 911 calls about a swarm of bees around a city power box in the vicinity of Blanshard and Fisgard streets.
Police arrived and began diverting pedestrians from the scene as a precaution. Traffic was also briefly diverted.
A beekeeper was contacted to collect the swarm.
