Defence Minister Bill Blair said sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ will send Royal Canadian Navy vessels to support the Indo-Pacific Strategy in the coming days.

The Department of National Defence said HMCS Vancouver, based at CFB Esquimalt, will leave for Hawaii to take part in Exercise Rim of the Pacific 2024, known as RIMPAC, a multi-nation military exercise. Esquimalt’s HMCS Max Bernays, MV Asterix and a shore-based contingent of about 300 Canadian Armed Forces members will also be at RIMPAC.

The department said this will be the second year that the navy will deploy three warships to the region. After RIMPAC, Vancouver will continue sailing west for Operation Horizon, in the Indo-Pacific region.

Blair announced the participation while attending the Shangri-La defence forum in Singapore. He said the security of the Indo-Pacific region is vital to sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½’s future and the deployment shows that sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ is a partner for peace, stability and prosperity in the region.
