The opening date for the new Quw’utsun Secondary School in Duncan has been pushed back by four months to January.
The new school was originally expected to open in September, but the project has run into labour shortage and supply chain problems, the Cowichan Valley School Board said in an update Wednesday.
Students will remain at the current school, which is across the street from the new build, until the new $86-million secondary school is complete.
The new school is expected to include a neighbourhood learning centre with an Indigenous cultural and language centre and Quw’utsun youth health centre that are being developed with Cowichan Tribes and Island Health.
The current school, built in 1950 and identified as needing seismic work two decades ago, could be sold once students transfer to the new building.
