President and chancellor reappointed at VIU

Deborah Saucier’s second term begins in 2024 and Judith Sayers’ second term began in October.

Deborah Saucier has been reappointed for a second five-year term as president and vice-chancellor of Vancouver Island University, and Judith Sayers will serve a second three-year term as chancellor.

“The Presidential Reappointment Committee undertook a thorough review process and submitted a strong recommendation to reappoint Dr. Saucier as president and vice-chancellor,” said VIU board of governors chair Manley McLachlan. “The board acknowledges Dr. Saucier’s strong leadership through the unprecedented disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic and the success of developing the institution’s first strategic plan: People, Place, Potential.”

McLachlan said that Saucier has strong connections with VIU’s students, employees, alumni and community partners, while Sayers, or Cloy-e-iis —president of the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council — has given valuable input on Indigenous issues at the university and has advocated for all students.

Saucier’s second term begins in 2024 and Sayers’ second term began in October.

As chancellor, Sayers is the formal head of the university and confers all degrees, honorary degrees, diplomas and certificates.
