Crystal Pool will remain closed longer than expected after delivery of a part needed for repairs was delayed, the city says.

The pool, including hot tub, sauna and steam room, closed on Nov. 12 after a valve in the filtration system failed.

It was expected to reopen Nov. 20, but the needed part has not arrived and no reopening date has been set.

“We are working to rush delivery and complete repairs so the pool can reopen as soon as possible,” the city said on the facility’s website.

The fitness facilities remain open.

During the closure, Crystal Pool memberships will be accepted at recreation centres in Saanich, Oak Bay, Esquimalt, West Shore, Panorama, SeaParc and the downtown YMCA.

The pool and fitness centre were already scheduled to close for annual maintenance from Dec. 2 to Dec. 29. Memberships will also be accepted at other facilities during that period.

The city is expected to hold a referendum in February on borrowing $168.9 million to replace the pool, which is more than 50 years old.

City residents will also be asked to weigh in on which of two sites in Central Park they favour.
