Mobile phone reception may soon be more reliable in the Blenkinsop Valley after Saanich endorsed an application for a new 35-metre cell tower.

Council unanimously endorsed an application being put forward by Rogers Communications to the federal government to build a telecommunications tower at Beckwith Farm, 1018 Beckwith Ave., to improve wireless service for residents and businesses in the area.

Saanich’s role is just as a support of the application. Innovation, Science and Economic Development sa国际传媒, formerly Industry sa国际传媒, will make the decision on the project.

The proposed structure would include a 35-metre monopole tower and antenna placed within a 110-square-foot compound surrounded by security fencing.

While the site is on land in the agricultural land reserve, the federal government does not need Agricultural Land Commission approval to go ahead.
