A Saanich man has been found guilty of sexually assaulting and choking a woman in July 2008.
Sgt. John Price said the Crown is now making an application to have Robert Charles Lawrence declared a dangerous offender. Lawrence, 31, has been in custody since his arrest July 8.
Earlier this week, Crown prosecutor Catherine Murray told sa国际传媒 Supreme Court Justice Keith Bracken that the assault took place at a time when the victim, whose identity is protected by a court order, and her common-law husband were trying to help Lawrence, allowing him to stay at their home.
When the husband was away one night, the victim decided to go to a pub to pick up some cigarettes. Lawrence went with her. She bumped into a friend at the pub and decided to stay for a few drinks, as did Lawrence. At the end of the night, the woman and Lawrence drove back home.
The woman went to bed. She awoke when Lawrence jumped on top of her on the bed, said Murray. He held her down by her arms and attempted to have sex with her. When she struggled, Lawrence choked her until she passed out. --sa国际传媒
