Nanaimo RCMP say they were able to return three stolen bikes worth a total of $10,000 to their owners, after officers on patrol spotted repeat property offenders with expensive bikes.
Officers were conducting patrols in high-crime areas of Nanaimo when they saw the bikes, which ranged from mountain bikes to an e-bike, police said.
Three adults, ranging in age from 35 to 49, were arrested for possession of stolen property.
In each case, the bike owners had reported the thefts and provided photos of the bikes, including serial numbers, police said.
“We would be remiss in not reminding cyclists to always take pictures of their bikes including serial numbers, and to lock their bikes when they are left in public areas. Also, if the bike is stolen to report the theft to the police with pictures as soon as possible,” said Reserve Const. Gary O’Brien.
