Teen gets fine for loud tunes

With the promise of a sunny weekend and many people enjoying the outdoors, Saanich police are warning music-lovers and party-goers that there's a cost to making excessive noise.

With the promise of a sunny weekend and many people enjoying the outdoors, Saanich police are warning music-lovers and party-goers that there's a cost to making excessive noise.

The warning comes after an 18-year-old Saanich youth was hit with a $100 fine for blaring his favourite tunes just a little too loudly early yesterday from a home on South Valley Drive.

Saanich police Sgt. John Price said several complaint calls were received. An officer went to the house and the youth agreed to turn the music down, but then proceeded to turn it back up a short time later. The officer returned and issued a fine under terms of the municipal noise-suppression bylaw.

"It's all about being mindful and respectful of your neighbours, and believing that not everybody's going to enjoy your taste in music," Price said.
